Sage – Salvia officinalis
About: Sage has a drying effect which is helpful when there is mucus production, saliva, or when you need to reduce breast milk flow (during weaning stage or when over-production, chronic or frequent engorgement), or plugged ducts. It has been used for sore throats, a gargle/mouth rinse, colds flu, night sweats, menopause/ hot flashes, respiratory congestion, anxiety, blood clots, cystitis, fever, staphylococcus infection, excessive perspiration, rheumatic pain, mitigate when there is excessive saliva production for those who have Parkinson’s disease, diarrhea, indigestion, irregular menses.

Other Uses: Sage is commonly used to clear evil/bad spirits from a home before moving in. It is also used in spiritual rituals. In some traditions, it was used for wisdom, attract protection and prosperity, and promote longevity.
Edible Uses: Sage leaves can be battered and fried/baked. It makes a wonderful snack. It is useful culinary herb to have on hand for Thanksgiving dressing, add to pasta dishes, used as a culinary herb. The flowers and leaves can be candied.
Caution: Don’t ingest large doses while pregnant or when nursing, as it dries the milk production. Due to its thujone content, it should not be use for extended periods of time or avoid using large doses of Sage; or if you have epilepsy, high blood pressure, or kidney disease.
